Pianist and bandleader Vincent Lopez was born in Brooklyn to Portuguese immigrant parents. He was leading his own band in New York City by the time he was 22 years old. In 1921 Lopez was one of the first musicians to be broadcast on the radio - just after it had been invented. His weekly 90-minute radio show helped his popularity soar. And in 1932 he made a big screen cameo appearance in the musical comedy The Big Broadcast. Later, in 1936, Lopez appeared in live-action in a "follow the bouncing ball" Screen Songs cartoon for I Don't Want To Make History. A few years later, in 1940, Lopez made history once again appearing in some of the first "soundies".
