The 1921 Tin Pan Alley hit The Sheik Of Araby was composed by Ted Snyder with lyricist Harry B. Smith and Francis Wheeler. The popular jazz standard was inspired by the popularity of the 1920 silent movie classic The Sheik, which starred early pop icon and sex cymbal Rudolph Valentino. In 1926, Snyder incorporated part of the song's melody into That Night In Araby, a song composed for the movies non-silent sequel - The Son Of The Sheik. Also in 1926, Max Fleischer used The Sheik Of Araby for an installment of his popular Song Car-Tunes series.
