In 1914, during the outbreak of World War 1, Billy Murray and the Heidelberg Quintet's recording of By The Beautiful Sea topped the charts for 8 weeks. The song was featured in numerous films and TV shows. It's first appearance on the big screen was in 1931 when the song was used for an installment of the Screen Songs series. By The Beautiful Sea was written by Harold R. Atteridge (the composer of over 20 Broadway musicals) with Hall-of-Fame songwriter and composer Harry Carroll.
