50 SCOTTISH SONGS - Sing-a-Long Party
New York City has been considered a home away from home by Scots dating back centuries to when the city was called New Amsterdam, and still under Dutch rule. Scottish-American architects were a leading force in the development of the city that we know and love today. In the 1800's and early 1900's there were several popular Scottish songs that became hit songs in America and across other English speaking countries. Some of these folk songs from the Scottish Highlands appeared on the big screen for the first time in Max Fleischer's early installments pf the Ko-Ko's Song Car-Tunes series. The earliest of these films were silent, and featured the film's accompanying music performed in the theatre by a live band.
