CAB CALLOWAY - THE OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN
THE OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN (BETTY BOOP) 1933 |
|
Cab Calloway was well-known as the scat singing bandleader of the Cotton Club's house band. Duke Ellington and his Orchestra had been the house band, and Calloway was hired when Ellington and his band were off on tour. Calloway's popularity quickly soared, and before long The Cotton Club had two house bands. When he wasn't playing at the Cotton Club, he went on tour himself. In 1932, Calloway's song Minnie The Moocher was featured in a Fleischer Studio's Talkartoon cartoon. In the beginning of the cartoon, Calloway and his band are featured in live-action performing Prohibition Blues - it is the earliest know footage of Calloway.
