I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You was written and originally recorded by actor, comedian and singer Sam Therd in 1931. The song was Therd's first recording, released under his band's name - Lovin' Sam From Down In Bam with Tampa Red and Cow Cow Davenport. In 1932, the song was performed by Louis Armstrong in a Betty Boop short film. Armstrong appears in live-action in the cartoon - in one of the first times appearing on film. He also performs The High Society Rag in this theatrical short.
