Lou Fleischer, Max and Dave's brother, was the composer and/or arranger of many of the Fleischer Studio's films. The first film he scored the music on was Hot Dog in 1930 - the first film in the Talkartoons series. He also scored Dizzy Dishes later in 1930 - the first appearance of Betty Boop. He supervised the music for almost every Fleischer Studio's film that followed. As head of the music department, he is more responsible for the Fleischer sound then anyone. Many of the early films had a complex score that was ingeniously composed from bits and pieces of numerous popular songs and original numbers. Lou had an impressive knowledge of music that he utilized in his clever compositions. He also supervised and directed the dramatic scores of the Fleischer Superman films. Lou was a true music lover who was know to frequent live music venues around New York City and the boroughs.

Lou Fleischer also provided the voice for Wimpy on several Popeye films, and he voiced the Organ Grinder in the 1939 short My Friend The Monkey.
