Sweeping' The Clouds Away is a 1929 hit song by Sam Coslow, it was made famous by Maurice Chevalier in the 1930 all-star film Paramount On Parade. Coslow was born in New York City, and he was composing songs for Broadway revues when he was in his teens. In 1929, when he was 27, he was lured to Hollywood by the explosion of musical films being produced there. He became a songwriter for Paramount, and Paramount On Parade was one of his first films. By the 1940's Coslow was producing films - he won the Academy Award for Best Short Film in 1943. By the 1960's and 1970's he retired from show business and established himself as a well-down market analyst back in New York City. In 1933, Coslow's Sweeping' The Clouds Away was featured in the Betty Boop short Mother Goose Land, where it is sung by Bonnie Poe as Betty Boop.
