Goodbye My Lady Love was written in 1904 by songwriter and singer Joseph E. Howard. In 1904 a Henry Burr recording of the song was #3 on the charts, and it was a #5 hit for Harry MacDonough the same year. After having been a choir boy, and then joining a touring production of Little Eva, 11 year old Howard became well-known in vaudeville as a boy soprano. He later made a name for himself as a Tin Pan Alley songwriter, and he went on to compose hit songs for Broadway musicals. Throughout his career he performed as a singer on stage, radio and television. In 1961, 91-year old Burr died on stage while singing Let Me Call You Sweetheart. In 1924, Goodbye My Lady Love was used by Max Fleischer in an installment of his Song Car-Tunes series, featuring the famous Bouncing Ball. The film was later remade in 1929 as an installment of Fleischer's Screen Songs series.

GOODBYE MY LADY LOVE
So you're going away
Because your heart has gone astray
And you promised me
That you would always faithful be
Go to him you love
And be as true as stars above
But your heart will yearn
And then some day you will return
Goodbye, my lady love, farewell my turtle dove
You are the idol and darling of my heart
But someday you will come back to me
And love me tenderly
Goodbye, my lady love, goodbye
When the dew-drops fall
'Tis then your heart, I know, will call
So beware, my dove
Don't trust your life to some false love
But if you must go
Remember, dear, I love you so
Sure as stars do shine
You'll think of when I called you mine
So you're going away
Because your heart has gone astray
And you promised me
That you would always faithful be
Go to him you love
And be as true as stars above
But your heart will yearn
And then some day you will return
Goodbye, my lady love, farewell my turtle dove
You are the idol and darling of my heart
But someday you will come back to me
And love me tenderly
Goodbye, my lady love, goodbye
When the dew-drops fall
'Tis then your heart, I know, will call
So beware, my dove
Don't trust your life to some false love
But if you must go
Remember, dear, I love you so
Sure as stars do shine
You'll think of when I called you mine
