Vaudevillian and minstrel performer Harry Frankel, aka Singin' Sam, was a well-known radio personality in the 1930's - the early days of radio. He started his career in radio in Ohio in 1930, and he was known as Singin' Sam, The Lawnmower Man. After moving to New York City the following year he became known as Singin' Sam, The Barbasol Man. He didn't like living in New York City, so he moved back to his hometown in Richmond, Indiana in 1934. Before leaving New York, Frankel appeared in an installment of Max Fleischer's Screen Songs series singing the title song This Little Piggie Went To Market. The musical version of the nursery rhyme from 1728 was composed by Harold Lewis and Sam Coslow. In the 1930's, the song was recorded several times by various artists.

THIS LITTLE PIGGIE WENT TO MARKET
I remember many dear old love songs
Rhapsodies and symphonies galore
But a melody my mother sang to me still haunts me
How I always will adore
This little piggy went to market
This little piggy stayed home
This little piggy had roast beef
This little piggy had none
How I recall my dear old Mother
Putting me to bed
She tucked me in and said
To her cute little sleepy head
This little piggy was a bad little piggy
Who cried all the way home
Years have passed
But it's still my favourite poem
I dream and pray someday I'll say
To a cute little baby of my own
This little piggy went to market
And this little piggy stayed home
I remember many dear old love songs
Rhapsodies and symphonies galore
But a melody my mother sang to me still haunts me
How I always will adore
This little piggy went to market
This little piggy stayed home
This little piggy had roast beef
This little piggy had none
How I recall my dear old Mother
Putting me to bed
She tucked me in and said
To her cute little sleepy head
This little piggy was a bad little piggy
Who cried all the way home
Years have passed
But it's still my favourite poem
I dream and pray someday I'll say
To a cute little baby of my own
This little piggy went to market
And this little piggy stayed home
