In 1931's Talkartoon short The Bum Bandit, Betty Boop makes her fourth appearance on film as Dangerous Nan McGraw. The character had just appeared in the 1930 film Dangerous Nan McGraw played by Helen Kane. The original 1919 silent original of the film is considered lost. The film was inspired by the 1915 film (which was remade in 1924) The Shooting of Dan McGrew - Nan is Dan's sister. That film had been inspired by a 1907 poem of the same name by Robert M.Service. In The Bum Bandit, Betty sings I'm Dangerous Nan McGrew - an altered version of Helen Kane's original novelty song, which became one of Kane's signature songs. Nan McGrew is a two-handed Annie Oakley-like gunslinger. In The Bum Bandit, featuring Harriet Lee as Betty Boop/Nan, Nan has 17 kids.

I'M DANGEROUS NAN McGRAW
(BETTY BOOP VERSION)
I'm Dangerous Nan, the sister of Dan McGrew,
Believe it or not,
My father and brother were tough,
But I'm the toughest one of the lot.
I'm Dangerous Nan McGrew,
Pipe down or I'll fill you with lead.
I'm harder than nails and lucky as hell;
When I shoot at a body, it's dead.
Bring me a barrel of whiskey,
A barrel of good old Three Star,
A handful of tacks for a chaser,
And a light for this lousy cigar.
Who told you you were tough?
Why, you couldn't frighten a baby!
So, cut out this stunt, you poor little runt,
Before I forget I'm a lady!
I'm Dangerous Nan, the sister of Dan McGrew,
Believe it or not,
My father and brother were tough,
But I'm the toughest one of the lot.
I'm dangerous Nan McGrew,
Say, who are you making a goat of?
Come home and take care of your seventeen kids
Or I'll crown you with this locomotive!
