That Old Gang Of Mine was introduced at the Ziegfeld Follies in 1923 by vaudeville music and comedy duo Van & Schenk. The song was composed by Tin Pan Alley composer Ray Henderson, and the lyrics were written by Billy Rose and Mort Dixon. The song was published by Irving Berlin Inc. and it was recorded by many artists in 1923. The recording by Billy Murray & Ed Smalle became a number one hit, and several other versions of the song charted that year too. Also in 1923, the song was used as the theme to the silent film The Country Kid. In 1931, That Old Gang of Mine was the used as the basis for a short from Max Fleischer's Screen Songs series.
