Lazybones is a 1933 song written by Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer. The Tin Pan Alley song was reportedly written in 20 minutes. It was inspired by a day that Mercer came to Carmichael's New York City apartment to find him "snoozin''" on the couch. Mercer said "I'm gonna write a song called Lazybones" - and so they got right to it. In 1934 the song was used for an installment of Fleischer's Screen Songs series, The song was later recorded numerous times by popular musicians.

BARNICLE BILL THE SAILOR
Lazy bones, sleepin' in the sun
How you 'spect to get your day's work done?
Never get your day's work done
Sleepin' in the noonday sun
Lazy bones, sleepin' in the shade
How you 'spect to get your corn meal made?
Never get your corn meal made
Sleepin' in the evening shade
When taters need sprayin'
I bet you keep prayin'
Worms fall off of the vine
And when you go fishin'
I bet you'll be wishin'
Fish would jump on the line
Lazy bones, dozin' through the day
How you 'spect to make a dime that way?
Never make a dime that way
Never heard a word I say
Lazy bones, sleepin' in the sun
How you 'spect to get your day's work done?
Never get your day's work done
Sleepin' in the noonday sun
Lazy bones, sleepin' in the shade
How you 'spect to get your corn meal made?
Never get your corn meal made
Sleepin' in the evening shade
When taters need sprayin'
I bet you keep prayin'
Worms fall off of the vine
And when you go fishin'
I bet you'll be wishin'
Fish would jump on the line
Lazy bones, dozin' through the day
How you 'spect to make a dime that way?
Never make a dime that way
Never heard a word I say
