RUDY VALLEE - THE STEIN SONG

THE STEIN SONG (SCREEN SONGS) 1930
|
In 1929, Rudy Vallee recorded The Stein Song. The song was originally written in 1902 by Adelbert W. Sprague as The Maine Stein Song. Lyrics and some changes were added in 1905 by Lincoln Colcord. The song with it's drinking references (a Stein is a German beer mug), became the school song for The University Of Maine, and it eventually became a number-one hit. In 1929, Vallee obtained the rights to the song, and he changes to the tempo and some of the lyrics. The song again topped the charts. In 1930, the song was featured in a Screen Songs short titled after the song - it was Rudy Vallee's first Screen Songs appearance. The song also appeared in the 1932 Screen Songs film Rudy Vallee Melodies, where it is performed by Rudy Vallee in live action

THE MAINE STEIN SONG
Oh, fill the steins to dear old Maine
Shout till the rafters ring
Stand and drink a toast once again
Let every loyal Maine man sing
Then drink to all the happy hours
Drink to the careless days
Drink to Maine, our alma mater
The college of our hearts always
To the trees, to the sky, to the Spring and its glorious happiness
To the youth, to the fire, to the light that is moving and calling us
To the gods, to the fate, to the rulers of men and their destinies
To the lips, to the eyes, to the girls who will love us someday
Oh, fill the steins to dear old Maine
Shout till the rafters ring
Stand and drink a toast once again
Let every loyal Maine man sing
Then drink to all the happy hours
Drink to the careless days
Drink to Maine, our alma mater
The college of our hearts always
To the trees, to the sky, to the Spring and its glorious happiness
To the youth, to the fire, to the light that is moving and calling us
To the gods, to the fate, to the rulers of men and their destinies
To the lips, to the eyes, to the girls who will love us someday
Oh, fill the steins to dear old Maine
Shout till the rafters ring
Stand and drink a toast once again
Let every loyal Maine man sing
Then drink to all the happy hours
Drink to the careless days
Drink to Maine, our alma mater
The college of our hearts always
Oh, fill the steins to dear old Maine
