Bandleader and singer Cab Calloway was well known for his masterful scat singing. Calloway had learned skat singing in the 1920's when he started his career under the wing of Louis Armstrong at Chicago's legendary jazz club Sunset Cafe. There he was an understudy for UK-based jazz singer Adelaide Hall. By 1930 Calloway had moved to New York City and was soon leading his own orchestra, and in 1931 he was hired to headline at the Cotton Club - launching him into instant superstardom. Calloway's 1932 tune The Scat Song was one of his four songs featured in the 1933 Betty Boop short The Old Man Of The Mountain.

THE SCAT SONG
I don't know what to tell you,
There's only one thing I'll say,
Just scat'n-skeet' and Hi-De-Hi and scat'n-scat'n-scat'n-day.
I'm not good at lying for I'm not built that way,
Just scat'n-skeet' and Hi-De-Hi and scat'n-scat'n-scat'n-day.
I don't understand the words you use half the time,
What's that silly language without reason or rhyme.
Well you see your honor that's all that I can say,
Just scat'n-skeet' and Hi-De-Hi and scat'n-scat'n-scat'n-day.
When I saw this cutie there was only one thing to say,
Just scat'n-skeet' and Hi-De-Hi and scat'n-scat'n-scat'n-day.
I just had to meet her because I never felt this way,
Just scat'n-skeet' and Hi-De-Hi and scat'n-scat'n-scat'n-day.
