I Love A Lassie is a traditional Scottish song written by comedian and singer Sir Harry Lauder in 1905. The song was inspired by his love for his wife Nancy. Lauder went from performing in music halls and on vaudeville to being one of the most famous entertainers in the world. In 1911 he was the highest paid entertainer in the world, commanding $1000. a night when he toured in the United States. During WWII, the elderly performer entertained troops on the front lines. In 1926, I Love A Lassie was used for an installment of Fleischer's Song Car-Tunes series, featuring The Bouncing Ball to lead the audience in a customary sing-a-long.
