Little Red School House was a popular 1922 song originally sung by American Quartet - a vocal group from 1899-1925 with rotating members that at times included Billy Murray as second tenor. Little Red School House was one of the group's most successful songs. The song was written by Al Wilson and James Brennen. In 1932 the song was featured in the Screen Songs short School Days, where it is sung by a student by the name of "Dolly Dimples." The fictional name "Dolly Dimples" has had a history of being used in a wide variety of songs and films. The name was used for a comic strip character from 1903-1933, and it later became a common name for exceptionally large women that appeared in "freak shows" throughout the early 1900's. In recent years the name was adopted by a character friend of the children's restaurant icon Chuck E. Cheese. The character name is also used by an unrelated Norwegian pizza chain.
