LA PALOMA    (SCREEN SONGS)   1930
One of the most popular songs ever written is La Paloma - a song composed in Cuba in the 1850's by Spanish composer Sebastian Yradier. The song's composer died in obscurity a couple years after the song was written, and he would never know the popularity or reach of his song. The song has been recorded all over the world in over 50 languages and reinterpreted by an  incredible amount of diverse cultures and arrangements. It is one of the most recorded songs in the history of music - it is considered a masterpiece in the world of music and the first universally popular song. It has also been called the most beautiful song ever heard. The song became so popular in Mexico it was adopted as a second national anthem. In 1930, La Paloma made it's first of many appearances on the big screen in an installment of Fleischer Studio's Screen Songs, which featured The Bouncing Ball leading the audience to sing-a-long with English lyrics. In later years there were several popular English versions recorded as No More, including an Elvis Presley version that appeared in the 1961 film Blue Hawaii. In 2004, the song was entered into the Guinness Book Of World Records after being sung in Germany by the recording-breaking largest choir ever - 88,000 people.
