In early 1930, the creepy classic Mysterious Mose was first performed by Walter Doyle and His Orchestra. That year the song was recorded by numerous artists, and in the end 1930 a recording by Rube Bloom and His Bayou Boys was used as the basis for the surrealistic Fleischer Talkertoon masterpiece Mysterious Mose. The animated short film stars Bimbo, and it features Betty Boop in one of her early appearances. Rube Bloom's all-star backup group at the time - The Bayou Boys - consisted of jazz legends Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Adrian Rollini and Manny Klein. Mysterious Mose was later resurrected in 1976 by legendary cartoonist Robert Crumb on a record by his band R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders. Later, in 1998, a 1930 recording of the song by Harry Reser and His Radio All-star Novelty Orchestra was the basis for the cult animated short from Screen Novelties - Graveyard Jamboree With Mysterious Mose.

MYSTERIOUS MOSE
There's a man of mystery that's roaming through the land,
Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh!
Far and near you hear of him, he's found on every hand,
Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh!
Every city, town and village knows of him by now,
There's a way to recognize him, let me tell you how.
If your past that midnight dark by a graveyard goes,
And someone whistles,
Whoooooo!
That's Mysterious Mose!
Of on a dark and stormy night, while the tempest blows,
If someone whistles,
Meow!
That's Mysterious Mose!
He sees all, he knows all, he gets in everywhere,
Some night, he might wait for you upon the stair!
So when you're going down the cellar, walk upon your toes,
And if someone whistles,
Whoooooo!
That's Mysterious Mose!
Everybody's talking of me everywhere you go,
Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh!
Who I am or what I am nobody seems to know,
Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh-Ooh!
In the mountains, at the seashore, anywhere at all,
Anytime of day or night you'll have to hear me call.
That's Mysterious Mose!
