My Baby Just Cares For Me was written in 1930 by Walter Donaldson with lyricist Gus Kahn. The song was written for the film adaption of 1928's hit musical comedy Whoopie, where it was famously performed by Eddie Cantor. In 1931, Cantor performed the song again in an installment of the Screen Songs series titled after the song. It would become Cantor's signature song. In 1958 the song was performed by Nina Simone on her debut album Little Girl Blue. Although the song wasn't a hit for Simone at the time, it became a hit for her in 1987 when it was re-released accompanied by a claymation music video.
