My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean is a traditional Scottish folk song that dates back to the mid-1700's. In Scottish slang, "bonnie" is a word that could refer to either an attractive boy or an attractive girl. The song remains very popular today in Western music, and there have been recordings in numerous styles and parodies. In recent years it has been quite popular as a children's song, and at the same time it continues to be a popular sing-a-long song for oldies groups. The song made it's first big screen appearance in Fleischer's 1925 Song Car-Tunes short film titled simply My Bonnie - which is also an alternate title of the song. In 1962, My Bonnie was recorded by British rock n roll singer Tony Sheridan with an early Beatles lineup - which consisted of John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, bassist Stuart Sutcilffe and original drummer Pete Best. Sheridan played frequently with this Beatles lineup.

MY BONNIE
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me
REFRAIN
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me
Last night as I lay on my pillow
Last night as I lay on my bed
Last night as I lay on my pillow
I dreamt that my Bonnie was dead
REFRAIN
Oh blow the winds o'er the ocean
And blow the winds o'er the sea
Oh blow the winds o'er the ocean
And bring back my Bonnie to me
REFRAIN
The winds have blown over the ocean
The winds have blown over the sea
The winds have blown over the ocean
And brought back my Bonnie to me
REFRAIN
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me
REFRAIN
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me
Last night as I lay on my pillow
Last night as I lay on my bed
Last night as I lay on my pillow
I dreamt that my Bonnie was dead
REFRAIN
Oh blow the winds o'er the ocean
And blow the winds o'er the sea
Oh blow the winds o'er the ocean
And bring back my Bonnie to me
REFRAIN
The winds have blown over the ocean
The winds have blown over the sea
The winds have blown over the ocean
And brought back my Bonnie to me
REFRAIN
