The song The Champagne Waltz was written in 1934 by Academy Award-winning composer Con Conrad and composer/pianist Ben Oakland, with lyrics by Milton Drake. The song was a huge hit in 1934 with a heap of recordings. It was also featured that year in Dance Contest - a memorable installment from the popular Popeye series. In 1937 the song inspired the film comedy The Champagne Waltz.
