Tin Pan Alley songwriters Dave Franklin and Cliff Friend are best known as the composers of The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down - which became the theme song for the Looney Tunes cartoon series. Never Should Have Told You is one of their lesser known collaborations. In 1937, the song was the feature song for a Screen Songs film featuring The Bouncing Ball and a performance by piano-playing bandleader Nat Brandwynne and His Orchestra. The song has been recorded by many, including Benny Goodman, Red Nichols and others.
