Arthur Tracey was fondly known as "The Street Singer" in the 1920's and 1930's. He borrowed the title from a 1924 movie with that name. Tracey immigrated from the Russian Empire with his parents and siblings, arriving on Ellis Island in 1905. His family settled in Philadelphia, where he attended college, and he eventually dropped out to become a singer. He sang part-time in Philadelphia minstrels and vaudeville shows, later moving to New York in 1924. His first big break was in the 1932 musical comedy The Big Broadcast.
One week after The Big Broadcast's 1932 release, Tracey was featured in the Max Fleischer Screen Songs cartoon Romantic Melodies. |
