In the 1930's, Betty Boop was wildly popular in Japan. That love of Betty inspired her to fly to Japan in the brilliant classic A Language Of My Own - arguably the least racist cartoon that evolved out of the period. This beautiful film, released four years before WWII broke out, was completely void of the typically offensive racial caricatures that were so common in the 1930's and 1940's. In the title song, written by Fleischer Studio's resident maestro Sammy Timberg, Betty dons a kimono and sings in actual Japanese. Mae Questel sings the Japanese part of the song flawlessly. Because of the Japanese lyrics in the song, a racy line was got by the censors at Hays Office - on one line Betty sings "come to bed with me and we'll Boop-oop-a-doop."

A LANGUAGE ALL MY OWN?
Got a language of my own known in every foreign home,
You surely know it is Boop-Oopy-Doop-Boop-Oopy-Doop!
If you sing it when you’re sad it will always make you glad,
You surely know it is Boop-Oopy-Doop!
If you’re near or far doesn’t matter where you are,
Sung in every land or the ocean Bop! Boop-Oopy-Doop!
It’s a song for harmony if you’ll only sing with me,
A’ww, come on and join me with,
Boopy-Doopy-Doopy-Doo-Boop-Oopy-Doop!
一つ大事な、とてよき言葉、それは私の
Hitotu Daijina Toteyo ki Kotoba Sore Wa Watashino!
Boop-Oop-a-Doop!
心潜めば、なおさらの事、歌い踊れ
Kokoro Hisomeba Naosaranokoto Utai Odore!
Boop-Oop-a-Doop!
分かれても、心は一つ、耳に留めて
Wakaretemo Kokorowa Hitotu Mimini Todomete!
Boop-Oop-a-Doop!
お馴染み様や、真は胸に、それでいいでしょ?
Onajimi-samaya Makoto-wamuneni Sorede ii desho?
Boopy-Doopy-Doopy-Doo-Boop-Oopy-Doop!
