LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART (SCREEN SONGS) 1932

Let Me Call You Sweetheart became an instant hit for The Peerless Quartet when they introduced the song in 1910. That original recording of the song has been selected for historic preservation by the National Recording Registery. The song, written by Leo Friedman and Beth Slater Whitson, quickly became a standard and was recorded countless times over the past century. Friedman and Whitson also wrote Meet Me Tonight In Dreamland in 1909. These two songs are amongst the top selling songs in sheet music - an industry that dominated the music business in their time. Let Me Call You Sweetheart had its first appearance on the big screen in the 1931 film Old Lace, where it was performed by Ruth Eating. The following year, in 1932, the song was featured in an installment of the Screen Songs series, where a 22-year old Ethel Merman performs the song while the bouncing ball leads the audience in a sing-a-long. In the following few years the song appeared in The Little Rascals and it also was featured in the Laurel & Hardy's film Swiss Miss.

LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Let me hear you whisper
That you love me too
Keep the love light glowing
In your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Keep the love light glowing
In your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Let me hear you whisper
That you love me too
Keep the love light glowing
In your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Keep the love light glowing
In your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
