In 1907, Tin Pan Alley songwriter Harry Von Tilzer wrote the popular tune Mariutch (Make-A The Hootch-A Ma Kootch) Down At Coney Island. The song was also known by other titles, including Mariutch Dance Da Hootch-A Ma Kootch. The songs lyrics were written by Andrew B. Sterling - Tilzer's long-time songwriting partner. The song about an Italian immigrant was the inspiration and plot basis for a 1930 installment of Fleischer's Screen Song's cartoon. The animated short is narrated by, and the title song is sung by Fleischer's in house recording superstar Billy Murray.

MARIUTCH DOWN ON CONEY ISLAND
I feel much-a mad all the day;
Thought my Mariutch went away;
When I saw that steamboat-a leave,
Wast-a much-a time when I grieve;
Steamboat she no go to Italy, she wait a while;
'Cause last night I saw my Mariutch at Coney Isle;
Don't you tell-a nobody-a what I tell-a you;
What-a you think my Mariutcha do.
Mariutch she make-a de hit;
I think that she take-a de fit;
On the stage I jump-a de quick,
'Cause that dance it make-a me sick;
I said Mariutch you break my heart in one big place,
Then somebody throw a ripe tomato in my face;
Mariutch she say you bet-a make-a quick skiddoo;
Or-a my Tony break-a you in two.
Mariutch she make-a de hootch a ma kootch down at Coney Isle,
Make me smile, she go like-a this, like-a that, like-a this,
she make-a such-a dance and never move-a de feet that's a funny style;
Some one yelled like-a that, "Hey look out! you'll break-a your back."
When my Mariutch make-a hootch-a ma kootch.
I feel much-a mad all the day;
Thought my Mariutch went away;
When I saw that steamboat-a leave,
Wast-a much-a time when I grieve;
Steamboat she no go to Italy, she wait a while;
'Cause last night I saw my Mariutch at Coney Isle;
Don't you tell-a nobody-a what I tell-a you;
What-a you think my Mariutcha do.
Mariutch she make-a de hit;
I think that she take-a de fit;
On the stage I jump-a de quick,
'Cause that dance it make-a me sick;
I said Mariutch you break my heart in one big place,
Then somebody throw a ripe tomato in my face;
Mariutch she say you bet-a make-a quick skiddoo;
Or-a my Tony break-a you in two.
Mariutch she make-a de hootch a ma kootch down at Coney Isle,
Make me smile, she go like-a this, like-a that, like-a this,
she make-a such-a dance and never move-a de feet that's a funny style;
Some one yelled like-a that, "Hey look out! you'll break-a your back."
When my Mariutch make-a hootch-a ma kootch.
