BOOP OOP A DOOP (TALKARTOON) 1932

Bandleader and musician Don Redman joined his first band when he was six years old. In 1931, a thirty-one year old Redman formed his own band, quickly earning a residency at the famous Connie's Inn jazz club in Harlem. Ann Little ... Betty Boop / Aloysius (voice) Billy Murray ... Bimbo (voice) (uncredited) William Pennell ... Ringmaster (voice) (uncredited) Plot The short film begins with a giant Betty Boop flag which flies over the big top. Betty works as a lion tamer and a tightrope walker. Another of the other circus attractions is Koko the Clown. While performing on the highwire the villainous ringmaster lusts for Betty as he watches her from below, singing "Do Something," a song previously performed by Helen Kane. As Betty returns to her tent, the ringmaster follows her inside and sensually massages her legs, surrounds her and threatens her job if she does not submit. Betty begs the ringmaster to cease his advances, as she sings "Don't Take My Boop-Oop-A-Doop Away". Koko the Clown is outside, practicing his juggling, and hears the struggle. He leaps in to save Betty's virtue, struggling with the ringmaster who loads him into a cannon, firing it, thinking that he has sent the hero away, laughing with self-satisfaction. But Koko is hiding inside the cannon, and strikes the ringmaster out cold with a mallet, returning with "the last laugh". When Koko expresses concern about Betty's welfare, she answers in song, "No, he couldn't take my boop-oop-a-doop away!" The film ends with Koko sweetly kissing Betty on the cheek. Dont take my Boop Oop a Doop Away. Mae Questel's first song recording with Victor. After recording Dont take my Boop Oop a Doop Away for victor Mae Questel started recorded Shirley Temple knock-off songs for Decca in her Betty Boop voice titled as "The Betty Boop Girl", Mae also did the voice for Betty Boop in a Radio Show called Betty Boop's Frolics/Betty Boop's Fables. Mae Questel's Betty Boop voice is a impersonation of 1920's Actress & Singer Helen Kane, actually Betty Boop is a definite caricature of Helen Kane. Mae Questel also sings this tune live in Musical Justice as Betty Boop which was released in 1931. Betty Boop sings this in Boop Oop a Doop 1932, by either Little Ann Little/Margy Hines. "Don't Take My Boop-Oop-A-Doop Away" is a song, written by Sammy Timberg. It was first recorded for the short film Musical Justice (1931), with a vocal by Mae Questel. It was then used in the 1932 Betty Boop Talkartoons cartoon Boop-Oop-a-Doop. The chorus follows as: |

Max Fleischer Make's it clear that it's something in their voices. ( Which is Obviously a reference towards Helen Kane after she lost her lawsuit against them) From the Left is Kate Wright, Little Ann Little, Mae Questel, Margie Hines & Last But not least Bonnie Poe and in the Middle of Mae Questel is Max Fleischer. This Victory Song is Towards Helen Kane. It is a small rendition of Dont take my Boop Oop away, but is altered to Dont take Our Boop Oop a Doop Away! Mae Questel take's the lead in the song which the others look unhappy and "Boop" along in the end of the song. Bonnie Poe doesn't look happy at all, she looks very bored and annoyed even. You can say our voice is awful, Or my songs my songs are too risqué. Oh, but don't take Our Boop-oopy--doop ooh! Boopy Doopy Doopy Doo Boop OopyDoop Oop! (With Booping help from other Boopers)

Lou Gold & His Orchestra with Vocal Chorus: Arthur Fields - Black Bottom, Fox Trot from "George White's Scandals" (DeSylva-Brown-Henderson), Perfect 1926 (USA) NOTE: Lou Gold was the pianist and bandleader, whose dance orchestra was popular in USA in the 1920s. His band specialised in the hot dance tunes. He recorded for the cheap labels, such as Banner, Perfect, Harmony, Diva, Crown or Imperial. Sometimes he used pseudonym Rex King & His Sovereigns. In January 1927, Lou Gold's band recorded for Silvertone the first version of one of the musical icons of the American Roaring Twenties: Milton Ager /Jack Yellen's foxtrot, „Ain't She Sweet". Lou Gold's arrangements are simple and emphasize the dance aspect of the tune yet, as not many others, they capture the spirit of the dance madness of the Roaring Twenties. Next to charleston, the black bottom dance was one of two greates dance crazes of the Roaring Twenties. The theatrical show Dinah brought the Black Bottom dance to New York in 1924, and the George White's Scandals featured it at the Apollo Theater in Harlem 1926 through 1927 where it was introduced by dancer Ann Pennington. The "Black Bottom" name referred to Detroit's Black Bottom area. The dance became a sensation and ended up overtaking the popularity of the Charleston, eventually becoming the number one social dance.

DON'T TAKE MY BOOP OOP A DOOP AWAY
You know i was born with a certian habit thats part of me
It gives me happiness somehow
And now this habit is right at home in the heart of me
Without it im no good no how!
You can feed me bread and water or a great big bail of hay!
But dont take my Boop Oop a Doop Away!
You can say my voice is awful
or my songs are too risqué
But dont take my Boop Oop a Doop Away!
I feel like a lonesome barrel without a hoop
If you should deprive me of my Boop Oopy Doop!
(sigh)
Poop Oopy Doo!
It's the only thing i'll live for till the time im old and grey
So dont take my Boop Oop a Doop Away! ha!

DON'T TAKE THAT BLACK BOTTOM AWAY
No one ever gave me a tumble
At a party or ball
Till I learned a certain step
That gave me quite a rep
I became the life of the party
One who goes every day
That hot rhythm kept me with 'em
Now they wanna take it away, I'm cryin'
You can take my coat and hat
Take away my dog and my cat
But don't take away that Black Bottom
Black Bottom
You can take the sun away
Leave me with those clouds of grey
But don't take that Black Bottom away
Hey-Hey!
Every time I do that dance
I lose my self control
It has taken full possession
Of my very soul
So, just take everything you can
You can even take my man
But don't take that Black Bottom away
Take all poison alcohol
I won't miss that stuff at all
But don't take away that Black Bottom
Black Bottom
Take away those sexy plays
Where they scream the woman pays
But don't take that Black Bottom away
Hey-Hey!
When they took that Shimmy dance
I really didn't mind
When the Charleston ??? ???
I never wept ???? ???
But at the close of every day
On my knees you'll hear me prayin'
Don't take that Black Bottom away
Just take everything you can
You can even take my man
But don't take that Black Bottom
Don't take the sunshine out of my life
No one ever gave me a tumble
At a party or ball
Till I learned a certain step
That gave me quite a rep
I became the life of the party
One who goes every day
That hot rhythm kept me with 'em
